AFB STAIN (Acid Fast Bacillus)

Description

The Acid Fast Bacteria (Acid Fast Bacillus or AFB) test is done on sputum to detect the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily a lung pathogen. In addition to showing tuberculosis, an AFB stain can also show the presence of another kind of Mycobacterial infection like Leprosy or a TB-like disease that can affect people with HIV/AIDS. Lab results are usually ready the same day.
