THYROID PROFILE (FREE)

Description

Thyroid Profile or Thyroid Function Tests – (Free) are blood tests. The thyroid gland produces two main thyroid hormones – triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), responsible for metabolism, growth, sexual function, sleep, mood, energy levels, internal temperature, hair, skin, weight, and more.  When thyroid hormone levels are off, one can have an overactive thyroid gland where too much thyroid hormone is produced (Hyperthyroidism) or too little thyroid hormone is produced (Hypothyroidism). Free triiodothyronine (FT3) and Free thyroxine (FT4) are methods of measuring T3 & T4 that eliminate the effect of proteins that naturally bind T3 & T4 and may prevent accurate measurement, so considered as more specific to the thyroid functions. Lab results are usually ready the same day.
